Pteronics is a small start-up biotech company. The basis of the company is a platform technology based on antineoplastic effect of an existing drug (from here-on termed 'X'), which its patent has already lapsed, against several cancer types. Currently X is being marketed by a largepharmaceutical company for an entirely different purpose. Pteronics aims to patent this platform technology and form a strategic alliance with this company to bring this drug into the market. The application of existing drug for novel use together with the strategic alliance will give various advantages including a relatively inexpensive and fast clinical trial, existing manufacturing know-how and available distribution channel.
