Which competition is right for me?

CUE members are not required to choose which competition they wish to enter until the point of submission at the end of the Michaelmas term. However, for those wishing to begin to consider which competition they will enter, an outline of both competitions and the differences between them is included below. If you want any further advice, e-mail Seena Rejal (50K) shr22@cam.ac.uk or Dave Howey (1K) dah43@cam.ac.uk.

All members are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible to enable them to make the right choice, and to increase their chances of winning their chosen competition! It should be noted that, for a team entering a 50K entry, at least 1 member of the team must have been present at each training session.

The difference between the two competitions.

As can be seen from the diagram below, the training programmes are identical throughout the whole of term 1. Everyone who attends has the benefit of the same training programme.

The following diagram illustrates how the training program fits together:

The training programmes are identical throughout the whole of term 1. Everyone who attends has the benefit of the same training programme. Towards the end of term 1, competitors decide on which competition (£50K or £1K) they would like to enter and submit their competition entries. £50K semifinalists are announced at a gala dinner (to which all CUE members are invited) at the end of the term.

During term 2, the £1K and £50K training programmes separate and run concurrently. Towards the end of this term final competition entries are submitted for each competition, and prizewinners are announced at a high-profile prizegiving event in March.

After the competition, winning £50K teams are provided with support from CEC in starting up their businesses.
